Romantic Ireland

Ireland might be not the first destination when you think about honeymoon destination, but many honeymoon couples choose it lately and it is worth considering. Many of today's honeymooners are more sophisticated and they want some luxury and more than a few romantic settings, both of which Ireland has to offer.

Consider independent fly-drive Ireland tour  which starts from  $699 in low season and includes a rental car, accommodations, pick up service in Shannon, drop-off in Dublin or Belfast, full Irish breakfast daily, a guide to Ireland and hotel service charges and taxes.

Suggested itinerary

Start with the spectacular cliffs of Moher, some 700 ft above Atlantic. Kilfenora has small shops featuring knitwear and trinkets, and several 12th century stone Celtic crosses standing near churches. Drive north towards Galway, crossing the Burrne, a bleak moonscape of limestone and alien-looking flora. Galway city is easy to explore by foot, excelletn shopping, art galleries and an appealing harbor area next to Spanish Arch, where Spanish traders unloaded their ships in the 16th century.

Driving south later towards Killarney, stop at Kinvara, an enchanting fishing village across an inlet from Dunguaire Castle. Stop at the Craggaunowen Project, which brings Ireland's Bronze Age to life with a restored ring fort, and Quin Francsican Friary, which has a well-preserved cloister standing peaceably in a meadow. The town of Ennis offers plenty of shopping and charming, narrow streets, as well as wildlife sightings on a river walkway. Excellent pub fare and more elegant dining are available at Cruises restaurant and the Cloisters pub.

The Kerry region features fishing villages, dramatic coastlines, green fields, and prehistoric and early Christian sites. There is much to explore in Killarney, such as art galleries and knitwear shops. Dining is diverse, from the dining room at the Killarney park Hotel to the Laurels, which server up excellent pub grub and Irish music.

Continue towards to the Dingle Peninsula, pause in the town of Dingle to explore art galleries at the Half-door. After rounding Dunmore Head, with its stunning views of the Blasket Isles, visit the Gallarus Oratory, a tiny dry-stone church.

Please note: visitors should memorize the Gaelic names for towns and landmarks, since when you venture deeper into the Gaelic-speaking region, English vanish from road signs.

By approximately day 6 head north towards Limerick and Shannon. Tour the village of Adare, known for its thatched cottages and the covered Gothic mansion, Adare Manor. Limerick offers modern shops, a 12th-century castle and Hunt Museum.

Bunratty castle and Folk Park, which combines a restored castle built in 15th century and a meticulous recreation of rural life in Ireland at the turn of the last century is worth visiting. At the back of the Folk Park, the Mews restaurant in the basement of an 1846 mansion is raking in kudos for its gourmet fare.

Last day, drive to Shannon airport in the morning to catch your flight.

This itinerary can be also provided as private tour with a driver and a guide for those who does not want to drive themselves for the right side of the road.
