Biras Creek Resort, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

What's in a name?  Some people say "Biras" was an Arawak princess who hid from her enemies in this idyllic corner of the Caribbean. But anyone who has seen this unique 140 acre property and experienced its tranquillity and singular pleasures, will tell you the letters stand for something altogether different...

biras2.jpg (9821 bytes)..The barman knows the mix of your favorite cocktail. Rooms keys are unnecessary reminders of the reality you left behind. Suddenly the days become longer.   There is time for that long-awaited novel, ... In every day there comes a time to sail and swim the warm waters of Deep Bay, hover above an underwater coral garden, perfect your tennis serve, hike the hills... stroll through the gardens, bike the trails, ...play a game of snooker,  and explore the calm waters of North Sound. Beautiful, Intimate, Restful, Active, Sophisticated.
Where luxury does not owherhelm nature. Couples in search of a quiet hideway are in the majority here.

The art of hospitality lies in a perfect balance: all the elegance with none of the formality, excellent but unobtrusive service, a menu with all your favorites -yet every meal, a delicious surprise.

Biras Creek Resort details

Biras Creek is located on a saddle of land between two hills on a 140-acre peninsula. It can only be reached by boat. The property touches three distinct bodies of water: the enormous protected lagoon of North Sound, the open Atlantic, and a Caribbean bay - a paradise for swimming, boating and snorkeling, backed by the resort's private white-sand beach.  It is a water lover's dream location.

Although the resort offers 140 acres of land, it never hosts more then a handful of guests at a time. cars and paved roads are not part of the landscape - Biras is accessible only by boat. This makes the resort a truly sanctuary. However, it is also part of a thriving North Sound community of resorts that are linked by boat, so guests can visit other places too.

Accommodations

Twenty-one suites are scattered along Berchers Bay on the Atlantic shore, plus nine suites through the landscaped garden. Positioned to ensure total privacy, each one contains a sitting room, separate bedroom, garden shower, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, direct-dial telephone, refrigerator and a verandah. Each has a private balcony with an ocean view - some are literally anchored at the surf's edge. Rooms keys are optional.  Two Grand Suites have panoramic windows facing the sea, oversized terraces, and sunken baths. All are decorated in bright, tasteful Caribbean colors. There is also Pelican Point - a private villa high on a hillside, with two bedrooms each with its own bathroom, a kitchen, and a wrap-around balcony offering unparalleled views over North Sound. The hub of the property is a hill-top stone "castle," housing the reception area, Arawak Pavilion with its big-screen TV, snooker room and reading den. At the top sits the restaurant with its terrace bar giving breathtaking views of the Sound through its "open walls." In the evening, diners sit at candle-lit tables, looking out over the sunset, selecting from an award winning haute-cuisine menu and a supreme selection of wines.
