Caribbean Weddings - Waiting period get to wed

Many Caribbean Islands require that a bride- and or groom-to-be reside in the destination for a number of days before a marriage license can be obtained. Below is a sampling of waiting periods, which can vary greatly from island to island.

Anguilla - One person must reside on the island for 15 days

Antigua & Barbuda - No waiting period

Bahamas - One-day waiting period

British Virgin Islands - Three-day waiting period

Dominican Republic - Prior permission is needed from the American Consulate in Santo Domingo (809) 221-5571

Jamaica - 24-hour waiting period

Puerto Rico - no waiting period

St. Kitts and Nevis - Two-day waiting period

St. Lucia - Two-day waiting period

St. Vincent and Grenadines - Three-day waiting period

Trinidad and Tobago - Three-day waiting period

Turks & Caicos - 24-hour waiting period

U.S. Virgin Islands - Three-day waiting period
