Negril Chic at new Couples
Think of it as South Beach meets Negril Beach. Couples Negril, Jamaica’s latest all-inclusive resort, made its impressive debut in November 1998, proving that you can build a grand new beachfront property with a trendy artistic flair while still retaining an authentic Caribbean ambiance. The stylish 234-room property includes 18 suites and sits on 18 landscaped acres directly on 1,000 feet of the pristine sands of Negril’s Bloody Bay. Nine low-rise buildings surround the main lobby building where guests are greeted with both champagne and the welcoming view of the spacious pool area and the sparkling Caribbean beyond.
The work of local artists and the elegance of the antique wicker and flame-red chairs and sofas of the lobby area set the tone for the resort, with unique artwork and delightful design elements that are carried into the guest’s rooms. Each room includes a hand-painted silk tapestry by Jamaican artist Ireko and romantic touches like grass cloth sconces, sculpted hanging candle bowl and the convenience of remote controlled air conditioning.
Sister property to the 20-year old Couples Ocho Rios, the Negril Location offers the same dedication commitment to providing a relaxed yet elegant romantic retreat for couples, only in more bohemian atmosphere of laid-back Negril. The resort offers a complete range of watersports plus and air-conditioned cardiovascular fitness center with Cybex equipment, a separate aerobics room, four tennis courts, volleyball and nearby golf. Guests at Couples also have access to the elaborate spa and sports center at nearby Swept Away.
Dining options include the open air Cassava terrace; the thatch-roofed Beach Grill & Bar, serving daytime snacks and Mediterranean cuisine in the evening, although the giant touch of bananas hanging above the bamboo sided bar reminds diners that they are still very much in Jamaica; and the elegant Otaheite fine dining restaurant where couples sit side by side on plush velvet love seats. In the popular Piano Bar, bright red loungers, chartreuse accents and leopard print furnishings evoke a retro ‘40-‘50s style.
Currently, a "double-take" program allows guests to experience both Couples properties (three nights minimum at each) and includes air transfers between Ocho Rios and Negril.
