Day 1: Arrive Siem Reap, visit Angkor temples
Arrive at Siem Reap Airport and transfer to your hotel. Begin touring the vast temple complex of Angkor, starting with Angkor Thom, built in the 12th century, the site of the huge Bayon Temple with its 54 towers decorated with more than 200 mysterious faces. Also see The Royal Enclosure, Pimeanakas, Elephant Terrace and terrace of the Leper King. In the afternoon visit Angkor Wat, the world’s largest temple complex. Its five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. View the sunset from Phnom Bakheng hill with a spectacular view of the Western Baray and Angkor Wat. (B/L or D*)
Day 2: Visit Angkor temples
Continue your temple visits, including Prasat Kravan with its unique brick sculptures, Pre Rup, the mountain-temple, Mebon Oriental, Ta Som, Neak Pean - a fountain built in the middle of a pool and representing a Himalayan mountain lake - and Preah Khan, built by King Jayavarman VII. In the afternoon explore Ta Prohm, one of the most beautiful temples, relatively untouched and retaining much of its mystery as banyan trees and jungle-like vegetation make the ruins appear as they were when discovered by the French in 1860. Day 3: Depart Siem Reap
Enjoy a leisurely cruise on Thonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest fresh water lake. During the rainy season the lake swells to several times its dry season size due to monsoon flooding and reversed water flow from the Mekong River. Visit the floating village of Chong Khneas in a traditional wooden boat. In the afternoon, transfer to Siem Reap airport.
